Contract Cancellation Insurance
BEDOUIN
OVERVIEW
Canceled contracts have afflicted traveling healthcare providers for years, leaving them frustrated. Bedouin protects travel nurses by providing honest and personalized contract insurance coverage. Started by nurses and backed by UC Berkeley, Bedouin strives to give travel nurses the coverage they deserve.
THE CHALLENGE
Bedouin's existing landing page needed significant enhancements, including additional pages and a redesign of the home screen. The previous layout was confusing and lacked usability, failing to convey the platform's sophistication and trustworthiness. The client’s objective was to create a modern, credible, and user-friendly website that meets the needs of travel nurses.
THE SOLUTION
For redesign inspiration, the team and I looked at current insurance websites such as Lemonade and The Zebra. We found the best course of action was to:
Redesign the insurance quote form page into multiple step-by-step pages instead of one long continuous scroll.
Update and enhance illustrations and style guide for a modern and consistent interface.
Create a user dashboard designed to help users once they have created an account

client questions
The client's responses allowed me to have a better understanding of what the client is looking for and identify the design process to meet Bedouin's needs. Some key takeaways were:
Update the existing screens to a uniform and cohesive design
Build out the quote, user profile, blog, and about us pages
Maintain the essence of the original Sahara desert theme
Understanding the product
Before jumping into the redesign, I took time to familiarize myself with the current state of Bedouin. I thought it was a great starting point, I loved the desert theme and some of the colors.
BUT…
There was a lot of work to be done. The client stated they disliked the user flow and lack of cohesive design. Just by looking at the quote page, we found:
Text fields long as the page
Failed color contrast
One long continuous scroll
Research
We looked at existing insurance websites to research and gain inspiration for features, functions, and flows. Through my research of quote forms, I found:
Less information on the page to not overwhelm the user
Progress bar to inform the user how long an action is taking
When the text field is selected stroke is highlighted
IDEATION
User Stories
We were provided the user stories by the client. As a user I want to be able to:
Get an insurance quote without signing up or logging in.
Create my account.
Read blog posts on the site.
Learn more about the company
User flows
Diagrams were created to visualize the path that the user would take to complete the user stories. The team split this up by pairing two to a user flow, I worked alongside my team member to complete user flow 4.
SITE MAP
As a team, we outlined the pages that users would use to navigate the site.
Mid-Fi Wireframes
With the site map completed, the team set out to work on mid-fi wireframes. After a zoom team meeting, the work was split up evenly, leaving me responsible for the insurance quote form pages.
Color Exploration
Gaining inspiration from the existing website, we set off to create a new and more visually appealing color palette.
Style Guide
With the mid-fi wireframes finished and the new color palette selected, the team set its sights on creating the style guide. The style guide established the guidelines, ensuring a consistent design process.
UI Iterations
In order to give the client some variety, the team split up to create 3 UI iterations. Each keeps the travel/nomad desert theme but adds its own little twist. The team split up this portion into pairs; I ended up working alone for the third iteration. The client chose the middle iteration but expressed that it was a tough decision based on how much they liked my design.
I believe the client made the right choice, I think the middle iteration provides a modern clean design with a balance of the nurse and desert theme, whereas mine was too focused on the desert design.
High Fidelity
Now that we had our style guide and UI iteration set, it was time to work on the high-fidelity wireframes.
Again we split up the work evenly as a team, designing the screens we had for the mid-fi wireframes. I was able to help design the "About Us" page and fix any inconsistencies.
DEV HAND-OFF
Communicating the Design
In order to ensure a smooth transition for the developers the team and I compiled extensive and detailed annotations.
My favorite annotations consisted of explaining the camel animation moving closer to the oasis after each step was completed.
Reflection
Bedouin is a B2C insurance website that strives to protect travel nurses from contract cancellations. It will be launching in 2023 and I couldn't be more excited! With the team's effort and support from UC Berkeley's LAUNCH accelerator, I can't wait to see how Bedouin grows and expands as a company.
Bedouin was an exciting endeavor, our team collaborated to bring the idea of what we wanted the website to look like to reality. This experience helped me to understand the need for balance when redesigning a new UI while still maintaining the original essence of the website. As seen in my UI iteration, I was too focused on keeping the desert theme instead of modernizing and implementing a nurse component to the design. I overcame this struggle when designing the About and Blog pages. Through the use of our new style guide, desert photography, and nurse illustrations, the need for a balance of both desert and nurse themes was instilled.
I attribute our team’s success to our efforts in maintaining consistent communication, effective collaboration, the ability to express differing design opinions, and our commitment to delivering an easy-to-use website that aligned with the client’s vision. In regards to Bedouin achieving its goal, I believe the redesign gives the website easier access to quotes and information, resulting in higher conversion rates.
“Thank you for all the hard work! It has been a pleasure working with this team.”
